AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy company based in the UAE, has made a significant leap in Egypt’s energy landscape by signing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for two landmark projects.
These initiatives aim to develop Africa’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant and the first utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Egypt.
With a combined investment of $800 million, these projects will play a crucial role in supporting Egypt’s ambitious renewable energy goals.
The first project involves constructing a 1,000 MW solar PV plant along with a 600 MWh BESS in the Benban area of Aswan Governorate.
The facility is set to become the largest of its kind in Africa. AMEA Power’s second project expands its existing 500 MW Abydos Solar PV plant.
It adds a 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), marking a pioneering step for utility-scale storage in Egypt.
Together, these projects are expected to generate clean energy for approximately 769,800 homes and reduce carbon emissions by over 2.3 million tons annually.
Several key figures and organizations have been instrumental in bringing these projects to fruition.
Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, has expressed his commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in Egypt.
He emphasized that these projects are not merely about generating power; they are also catalysts for economic growth and community empowerment.
The Egyptian government is a vital partner in this endeavor. Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Esmat has actively supported these initiatives, reflecting the government’s proactive stance on renewable energy development.
Their involvement underscores the importance of public-private collaboration in achieving national energy goals.
The UAE’s diplomatic support, represented by H.E. Mariam Al Kaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt, further strengthened the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
