Global design and engineering firm Dar Al-Handasah and renewable energy specialist Sun Africa have solidified their partnership with a new memorandum of understanding (MoU). This agreement strengthens their commitment to collaborating on energy transition and sustainable development initiatives across Africa, with a focus on projects in Angola and Nigeria.
The initial collaboration will see Dar provide comprehensive technical support, including design, project management, and construction supervision, for Sun Africa’s projects. This partnership has already yielded significant results, as evidenced by the successful inauguration of two photovoltaic farms in Angola in 2022. With five more farms under construction, the combined capacity of these projects is expected to reach 380 MW, providing renewable and sustainable energy to a million Angolans.
Dar’s commitment extends beyond technical assistance, as they will also support Sun Africa in securing funding for future projects. This collaboration represents a significant step forward for both companies, as they leverage their expertise to drive positive change across Africa.
Highlighting the importance of this partnership, Danny Aoun, Regional Director of Operations at Dar, stated, “Our collaboration with Sun Africa embodies our shared commitment to promoting sustainable development, empowering communities, and creating value. The successful projects we’ve undertaken together, showcased at COP28, serve as concrete examples of the impactful initiatives needed to steer our world towards a more sustainable future.”
Echoing Aoun’s sentiment, Adam Cortese, CEO of Sun Africa & UGT Renewables, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, calling it “a groundbreaking alliance between two global leaders in engineering.” He emphasized the far-reaching impact of this collaboration, stating, “Our strategic partnership transcends borders, uniting us in a mission to revolutionize renewable energy, transmission and distribution systems, off-grid solutions, and water purification. This is a crucial moment for Sun Africa and UGT Renewables, reaffirming our dedication to global-scale sustainable development.”
Dar and Sun Africa’s collaboration has a proven track record of success, demonstrated through projects like the 400 MWp photovoltaic farm in Lauca, the 104 MWp photovoltaic farm in Icolo and Bengo, and Sun Africa’s initiative to bring rural electrification to 65 municipalities in Angola.
With this new MoU, Dar and Sun Africa are poised to accelerate their progress in delivering innovative solutions to address urgent energy and environmental challenges across Africa. Their combined expertise and unwavering commitment to sustainability promise to leave a lasting positive impact on the continent
