Latest Solar Power Projects in Africa

Africa’s solar energy landscape is expanding fast, with projects moving from planning to operation across multiple countries. These initiatives reflect the continent’s push for energy independence and economic growth.

Key Projects / Updates:

  • De Aar Solar Farm, South Africa – 180 MW, operational since 2024. Supplies clean energy to the Northern Cape and supports local industries.
  • Noor Ouarzazate IV, Morocco – 72 MW, under construction. Part of Morocco’s strategy to increase solar capacity while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Garissa Solar Plant, Kenya – 50 MW, operational. One of the largest in East Africa, providing electricity to over 90,000 households.
  • Benban Solar Complex, Egypt – 1,650 MW, operational. A continental landmark in solar investment, significantly boosting grid stability.
  • Kia Solar Project, Tanzania – 40 MW, planned. Aims to deliver affordable power to rural regions.
