The AfDB’s Peace Renewable Energy Certificate (P‑REC) Aggregation Facility, backed by SEFA and partners including the Nordic Development Fund, Camco Clean Energy, and Energy Peace Partners, is unlocking new financing pathways for mini-grids in fragile African states.
P‑RECs allow developers to sell certificates to multinational buyers seeking social impact, receiving upfront capital that enables projects in areas traditionally underserved by conventional finance. Over 240,000 households, approximately 856,000 people, will gain first-time electricity access, adding 71 MW of renewable capacity.

This innovative instrument demonstrates how climate finance can simultaneously advance renewable adoption and social development, particularly in regions with high investment risk.
