50 Verified Solar Installers Across East Africa: Who Can You Trust?

When investing in solar energy, the integrity of your installer is as crucial as the quality of the panels. A reliable installer ensures your system is safe, efficient, and built to last. In East Africa, a growing number of companies are entering the solar market, making it difficult to distinguish the qualified from the questionable.

This guide provides a starting point for finding a trustworthy partner, focusing on officially verified installers in Kenya, with a nod to the broader East African region.

The primary source for this list is the official register from Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), which provides the most comprehensive and verifiable public database of licensed solar contractors in the region.

The companies listed below are a selection from this register, chosen to represent a range of license classes and specializations. While this list is Kenya-centric due to the availability of public data, many of these companies operate across East Africa.

Understanding EPRA License Classes

EPRA categorizes solar PV contractors into different classes, which indicate the scope and scale of projects they are licensed to undertake. For the purpose of this guide, we focus on the following:

  • Class V1: Licensed to carry out solar PV system installation works of up to 400 Wp.
  • Class V2: Licensed to carry out solar PV system installation works of above 400 Wp.
  • Class C1: Licensed to carry out solar PV system contracting for commercial and utility-scale projects.

50 Verified Solar Installers

The following table presents a selection of 50 verified solar installers, primarily from the EPRA Kenya register. This is not an exhaustive list, but a starting point for your own due diligence.

Beyond the List: A Call for Diligence

This list is a resource, not a recommendation. The solar industry is dynamic, and company details can change. Before engaging any installer, it is imperative to conduct your own verification.

  1. Verify with the Regulator: Always cross-reference any potential installer with the latest official register from the relevant national energy authority, such as EPRA in Kenya.
  2. Request Documentation: Ask for copies of their license, tax compliance, and certificates for their technicians.
  3. Check References: A reputable company will readily provide references from past projects. Follow up with these references.
  4. Demand a Detailed Quote: A quote should be more than a final number. It should be an itemized list of all components, labor costs, and warranties.

Choosing a verified installer is the first step toward a successful solar investment. It is a foundational measure of trust, ensuring that the company you partner with is accountable, qualified, and recognized by the authorities that govern the energy sector. Do not leave this to chance.
