iColo Expands Solar Power in Kenyan Data Centers for Green Future

ICOLO

iColo, a leading provider of data center solutions in Africa, has significantly expanded its renewable energy infrastructure across its Kenyan data center campuses.

This initiative aligns with Kenya’s ambitious renewable energy goals and demonstrates iColo‘s commitment to sustainable operations and a greener digital future.

The company has installed over 650 kilowatts (kW) of new solar panels across its data center campuses in Nairobi and Mombasa.

The Nairobi campus, NBO, has seen the addition of over 450 kW of solar capacity, while the Miritini campus in Mombasa has received approximately 200 kW of solar power.

iColo aims to meet 25% of its facilities’ power needs through these solar installations. With three data centers in its master plan, expected to consume over 20 megawatts (MW) at full capacity, this expansion is a significant step towards achieving that goal.

This initiative is particularly significant given Kenya’s progress in renewable energy. The country’s power grid is already composed of 82% renewable sources, making it a leader in the region.

iColo’s efforts contribute to Kenya’s transition towards a greener energy future and position the country as a regional hub for sustainable data centers.

The benefits of this expansion extend beyond environmental sustainability. iColo enhances resilience with reliable power and backup solutions, achieving cost efficiency and predictable expenses. This, in turn, attracts eco-conscious clients and helps the company meet regulatory demands.

The impact of this initiative extends beyond iColo’s operations. By supporting local businesses and attracting global tech firms, iColo is boosting the digital economy.
