At the Solar and Storage Live Africa event in South Africa, LONGi unveiled its latest solar innovations and signed strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) totaling 1.3 GW. The theme, “Built for Africa | Engineered for Extremes,” reflects a shift in how global solar manufacturers are approaching the continent. It is no longer enough to sell a standard panel; the technology must survive the local environment.
Dust accumulation is a major constraint on solar plant efficiency across many parts of Africa. It increases maintenance requirements and reduces energy yield. In high-dust environments, a standard solar panel can lose a significant portion of its output in just a few weeks. This is a practical challenge that requires a technical response.
LONGi’s answer is the Hi-MO 9 Hydroclear module. This module integrates Ultra Anti-Dust Technology, designed to reduce soiling losses and strengthen long-term system dependability. By preventing dust from sticking to the surface, the Hydroclear solution significantly cuts down on the need for manual cleaning, which is often costly and water-intensive in arid regions.
This is a scenario-driven innovation. It recognizes that the performance of a solar plant is not just about the efficiency of the cell in a laboratory, but about its durability in the field. For a developer in a desert or a semi-arid region, a panel that stays clean is more valuable than a panel that has a slightly higher peak output but requires constant maintenance.
At the same time, LONGi introduced the S10 Ultimate Power Module to the African market. Delivering up to 685W output and 25.4% efficiency, this module is designed for commercial applications where space and performance are at a premium. It represents the company’s ability to push the limits of module performance while providing greater value for large-scale projects.

The 1.3 GW in MOUs signed at the event demonstrates the market’s confidence in these technologies. It is a signal that the African energy transition is moving from a phase of pilot projects to one of large-scale, industrial deployment. This requires a supply chain that can deliver both high performance and long-term dependability.
The African solar market is maturing. It is no longer a place for off-the-shelf solutions that were designed for temperate climates. The challenges of dust, heat, and extreme weather are the primary drivers of innovation. LONGi’s strategy of combining scenario-driven technology with large-scale collaboration is a recognition of this reality.
It is about addressing immediate operational challenges while enabling long-term growth through technology leadership. For the African energy transition to succeed, the hardware must be as resilient as the ambition behind it.
